McCartney dijo que escribió "Let It Be" tras soñar con su madre
durante las tensas sesiones para la grabación del Get Back Album. McCartney explicó que su madre había fallecido
cuando él tenía 14 años. Posteriormente McCartney declaró: “Me encantó volver a
conversar con mi madre. Me sentí bendecido por tener ese sueño. Eso me hizo
escribir 'Let It Be'.” En una entrevista posterior declaró que su madre le
había dicho: “Todo saldrá bien, déjalo así (let it be).”

interesante notar que el mismo refrán "let it be", repetido en la
canción por María, la Madre, hace referencia a la frase con que María de
Nazaret expresa su sabiduría. De hecho, la palabra de sabiduría por excelencia
es su fiat en el Evangelio de Lucas, cap. 1, vers. 38: "Hagase en mí según
tu palabra...", que en inglés es precisamente “Let it be to me
according to your word". Esta interpretación convierte a la canción “Let
it be” en una canción mariana, religiosa.

castellano, también se puede traducir “let it be” como “dejarlo estar”.
En cuanto al sentido de esa frase, acá anoto algunas ideas: No podemos
controlar todo en la vida. Las cosas pasan y pasan como pasan. Lo único que uno
puede hacer es hacer lo mejor que uno puede, ya que no se puede controlar nada
más.
